If Najib was a victim, we are sure many too would like to be victims and receive millions in their bank accounts. Someone who had benefited from RM42 million sent to his bank account, which he had used to pay his credit card bills and buy expensive handbags for his wife, was a mere victim? To argue that Najib was the victim is a very imaginative defence.
Kuala Lumpur High Court judge Mohamad Nazlan Mohamad Ghazali on Friday set July 28 to issue his verdict, as prosecutors and defence lawyers delivered their closing arguments after a 14-month long trial. If convicted, Najib, 66, faces hefty fines and jail terms of up to 15 to 20 years on each charge.
KUALA LUMPUR (June 4): The defence in former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s SRC International Sdn Bhd trial told … More
The prosecution contended that the former prime minister Najib Razak had absolute knowledge of RM42 million from SRC which ended up in his accounts.
Defence lawyer took one and a half hours to conclude the submissions before the prosecution, saying his client had a firm belief the money he spent was from donations as the funds had come into his accounts over a period of a few years.
Today, defence lawyer said “the court of public opinion” had already convicted Najib but argued that the law and facts should prevail in this case.
At first, the prosecution in Najib’s SRC case wanted the three money laundering charges involving RM27 million to be tried together with the former premier’s seven other charges involving RM42 million in SRC, but the plan was changed due to a procedural issue.
