Emily Ratajkowski has claimed she was once paid $25,000 (£18,445) to go to the Super Bowl with Malaysian fugitive financier Low Taek Jho, aka Jho Low.
Speaking to The Sunday Times Magazine to promote her new memoir, My Body, the 30-year-old model and actor said she had once been paid to attend the high-profile sporting event with Low, who is accused of being involved in the 1MDB scandal(1Malaysia Development Berhadscandal) – which, according to the BBC, was a ‘global web of fraud and corruption’ that saw ‘billions of dollars ostensibly raised for public development projects in Malaysia instead landed in private pockets’, including those of the country’s former prime minister Najib Razak.
According to the outlet, Ratajkowski had been ‘unsure of why she was there, how long she had to stay and who her agent had to check with at the end of the night to find out whether she could leave’.
“I was on the clock,” she said, not specifying which Super Bowl event it had been.
Ratajkowski added that she ‘was not at all shocked’ by the Jeffrey Epstein scandal, having been to many lavish Coachella parties packed with ‘rich men’ and ‘good time girls’.
She continued: “A lot of my experiences with Coachella, or whatever, the transaction wasn’t defined. The terms of agreement weren’t named. I found out later that they invited girls who couldn’t afford food or a nice meal out to these fancy dinners in LA. That was a motivator for them to come. And that’s manipulation.
“I witnessed so much of that in different forms. Right before Covid I went to some new nightclub and it was really empty. All of a sudden 10 – I would guess if they weren’t underage then barely of age – models arrive with one guy. I was, like, ‘Oh right, the same thing is still happening. Beautiful girls being out at a club and rich men paying indirectly to have them there.'”
In her new book, Ratajkowski has also accused singer Robin Thicke of fondling her during the video shoot for ‘Blurred Lines’.
She wrote: “Suddenly, out of nowhere, I felt the coolness and foreignness of a stranger’s hands cupping my bare breasts from behind. I instinctively moved away, looking back at Robin Thicke.”
Ratajkowski goes on to say that she was enjoying filming, at first, but that Thicke allegedly became drunk and began acting increasingly rude.
She said: “He smiled a goofy grin and stumbled backward, his eyes concealed behind his sunglasses. My head turned to the darkness beyond the set.
“[The director, Diane Martel’s] voice cracked as she yelled out to me, ‘Are you okay?’.
“I pushed my chin forward and shrugged, avoiding eye contact, feeling the heat of humiliation pump through my body,” she said. “I didn’t react – not really, not like I should have.”
