KOTA KINABALU : Warisan’s Labuan MP Rozman Isli has confirmed that he will be charged at the Kuala Lumpur sessions court tomorrow, saying the government is trying to damage his reputation before the next general election.
Rozman was named in earlier news reports today as the politician to be charged by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
Speaking to FMT, Rozman said the government was trying to pin him down for allegedly abusing his power when he was a board member of the Labuan Port Authority.
He claimed the charge was being filed after the government failed to persuade him to leave Warisan and cross over to the other side.
“This is not new. They have been trying since early 2020. But I am not worried.
“After all, I want to fight cases of abuse of power and corruption. So in a way, it means this is going to be a ‘direct experience’ for me.
“Their first objective was to get me to join them. Because that failed, their second aim is to tarnish my reputation before the next general election.”
According to a media notice from MACC, the MP will be charged at 9am Thursday.
MACC did not reveal the MP’s identity but a well-placed source told FMT that Rozman was the man who would be charged tomorrow.
The source added that Rozman would be charged under Section 23(1) of the MACC Act, for using his position to seek gratification, whether for himself, a relative or an associate.
