KUALA LUMPUR : Umno has called for the setting-up of a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) to investigate several claims made by former Attorney-General (AG) Tan Sri Tommy Thomas.
Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the party’s supreme council wants the RCI to verify Thomas’s allegations of political interference in the judiciary and security matters
Thomas, who was the AG during the former Pakatan Harapan administration had made the claims in his book My Story: Justice in the Wilderness which was published early this year.
Zahid, in his statement released after the supreme council meeting late last night, also said Umno wants the current government, led by its vice-president Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, to be known simply as the Malaysian Government, and not the Perikatan Nasional government.
He said this was because the government is nowa loose political cooperation between Barisan Nasional (Umno, MCA, MIC and PBRS), Perikatan Nasional (PPBM, PAS and STAR), GPS and PBS.
Zahid added that Umno also wants the new government to immediately focus its efforts on tackling the Covid-19 pandemic and hastening the vaccination process in order to immediately achieve herd immunity.
