Militant killed, two detained after a shootout in Narathiwat

NARATHIWAT : A militant was killed while another two persons detained in a shoot out with the security forces in Narathiwat, south Thailand at about 5 am (local time) Tuesday.

Bacho Police Chief Col. Pol. Dulman Yaena said acting on tip off, security force members surrounded a double storey house being used as the hideout by the militants.

“Sensing the presence of the security forces, the militants holed up in the house started firing and the security forces returned fire. The gunfire exchange went on for 15 minutes.

“When the firing stopped, security personnel went in to inspect and found the dead body of a man with a pistol and a rifle with him,” he said during media briefing here today.

Dulman noted that police also detained two men believed to be owners of the house to assist in the investigations.

“Police are looking for another suspect who is believed to have escaped the security force dragnet,” he said.
