WCT says proposal on Subang Airport for re-concession

WCT Holdings Bhd admits that it had proposed to take a project on the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, also known as Subang Airport.

The construction and engineering company said it proposed re-concession Subang Airport, not acquiring the asset, via its subsidiary Subang Skypark Sdn Bhd (SSSB).

In an exchange filing, the company said it proposed a lease operation whereby the government will continue to own the land and the airport.

“The proposal is currently at a concept paper stage which SSSB submitted to the Transport Ministry (MoT), Finance Ministry and Energy and Natural Resources Ministry, on March 1, 2021,” the company said.

The company owned by businessman Tan Sri Desmond Lim Siew Choon said the proposal is still preliminary.

It further said submitting concept papers to related government ministries is a common practice.

Earlier, MoT issued a statement saying any proposals to develop Subang Airport would need great care and deliberation.

MoT said Subang Airport is a significant facility and major urban hub for Klang Valley residents, thus careful consideration is needed for its long term future in a broader Malaysian aviation landscape.

Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd said in a statement yesterday that the company has not been given the details of the proposal yet and neither has there been a discussion held with the government.

The airport operator said it is important to get views from regulators such as the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia and the Malaysian Aviation Commission before any decision can be made.
