Trouble in Negeri BN after Seremban Umno Youth cuts ties with MCA

The Umno Youth wing in Seremban has decided to cut all ties with Negeri Sembilan MCA over what it says were “provocative” statements made by the Chinese party in the vernacular press linked to the distribution of seats for the next general election.

This comes in the wake of a decision by Seremban Umno to contest the federal seat at the next polls.

“It is up to them who they want to field, but it must be an Umno candidate. MCA says they will not compromise (on seats),” Seremban Umno Youth chief Zool Amali Hussein told MalaysiaNow.

Umno’s youth wing in Seremban has decided to cut ties with its fellow Barisan Nasional component MCA over statements linked to seat distribution for the next general election.

He said the wing had notified the division’s chief Mustafa Salim of its decision to end cooperation with MCA.

Zool said Negeri Sembilan MCA chief Siow Koi Voon had recently dismissed the youth wing following a call to field an Umno candidate for the Seremban seat.

“Our findings show that voters want a Malay candidate. It’s not about whose seat it is traditionally, we want to win the seat,” he added.

He said MCA should instead stand in state seats such as Temiang or Lobak, adding that the party should first put its support to test on a smaller scale.

The Seremban seat is currently held by DAP’s Loke Siew Fook, who won 55,503 votes against MCA’s Chong Sin Woon who represented BN (24,809 votes), as well as PAS’ Shariffuddin Ahmad (11,506 votes).

MCA had contested the seat in the last three general elections and lost.
