One Piece, Demon Slayer, Slam Dunk, Detective Conan and Dragon Ball came out on top. Sorry, Doraemon.
The Japanese take their manga very seriously. So seriously, in fact, that 150,000 of them have voiced their opinions on what the best of the best are. And if you’re on Team Doraemon, sorry but it doesn’t seem to be that popular – at least compared to others.
Japanese network TV Asahi held a fun poll titled Seriously, 150,000 Citizens Voted! Manga General Election where they got people to decide on their favourites. The results were announced on Sunday (Jan 3) on both television and their YouTube channel and the most popular manga title was One Piece with 33,600 points (which is different from votes, apparently).
The rest of the top 5 included Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba (29,100), Slam Dunk (26,700), Detective Conan (25,400) and Dragon Ball (22,400).
Rounding up the top 10 were Attack On Titan, Naruto, Haikyu!!, Fullmetal Alchemist and JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. (Doraemon could only make it to 15th).
The extensive list reached all the way to a hundred but many netizens pointed out some titles that were seemingly overlooked, including Death Note, Gantz and Akira.
Take note, though, that the poll simply pertains to manga titles, not anime – that’s a different kettle of fish altogether.
