Umno calls for GE immediately after Covid-19 is under control

Party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has pledged for all its members to remain in the Perikatan Nasional government, and to ensure Budget 2021 is passed

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 30 : After a lengthy Umno Supreme Council meeting tonight, the party said today that its Cabinet members will stay on amid rumours of a reshuffle and the appointment of a deputy prime minister.

Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the party proposes that the bank loan moratorium be extended to aid the public, financial aid to those who have lost their source of income due to Covid-19 and assistance to unemployed youth.

This was decided in the party’s Supreme Council meeting at its headquarters at Putra World Trade Centre last night, which lasted over four hours.

In a statement released following the meeting, president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi also promised voters that it would not back any other move to invoke the emergency as previously proposed by the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government.

“Umno is a party where at its base puts the priority of the people first. Therefore, all Cabinet members representing Umno will continue to stay in the government and aim to continue taking care of the public’s welfare and defend the party’s dignity,” he said.

On the coming Budget 2021 tabling scheduled for November 6, Zahid said Umno would ensure that it is passed in Parliament.
