KLANG: Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s re-entry into UMNO will receive the support of many party leaders in addition to the guarantee that the Pagoh MP may continue to lead the country as prime minister.
UMNO supreme council member Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman said if that happened, it would be like Muhyiddin returning to where he belongs.
“Once you become an UMNO member, it is up to the party members to determine one’s leadership.
“He (Muhyiddin) should not be scared. Just go in (rejoin UMNO first), we give him the assurance we will support. After he becomes (prime minister) we see where appropriate, we will support.
“For political stability, I think he should join UMNO, form his government and do the best for the country and the people,” he said at a press conference after visiting a local company facility responsible for supplying LRT trains to Prasarana, Hartasuma here, on Thursday.
However, at least three of UMNO’s leaders namely, Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, Datuk Sri Bung Moktar Radin and Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin have disagreed that Muhyiddin is UMNO’s choice for PM after next general election.
Previously, Padang Rengas MP, Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz suggested Muhyiddin should rejoin UMNO and strengthen the largest Malay party.
According to Nazri, all UMNO members and leaders should be open and accept Muhyiddin to rejoin the party for the sake of Malay unity.
“If he comes back to Umno, his contribution will be immense, since he is not coming with an empty position but brings the prime ministership to the party,” Nazri told reporters.
“Tan Sri Muhyiddin ought to be made Umno president as well, since the party president is always the prime minister. We must unite for the sake of race and religion,” Nazri said.
Nazri also suggested that if Muhyiddin returned to UMNO, the party’s presidency would also be handed over to the Pagoh MP.
